5.4 Inspiring People – Amie Jenkinson

At FivePointFour, we are extraordinarily fortunate to hit the jackpot every single day with meeting inspiring people who are chasing their health and fitness goals.  Today, we want to share with you a very special lady, Amie Jenkinson!

Amie is a long time 5.4 customer who inspires us every day!  She works extraordinarily hard in a corporate role, has just released her first book ‘The Harris Sisters’ and plays hard too!  She is a great example of someone with hunger in her belly to be the best that she can be but also keeps life in balance.  Meet Amie …

Tell us a bit about yourself …

My name Is Amie Jenkinson aka A. Jane. I’m the Author of the young adults’ fantasy novel ‘The Harris Sisters.’  A girl that literally had a dream, a reoccurring dream that led to a dream in the making.

You could say I’m a bit of a tomboy, I love sports, Xbox and I’m a baller from way back.

I like a good practical joke and a pun…

I live a fast paced life; trying my best to balance a corporate career in media/marketing, writing and spending time with my friends, family, amazing boyfriend Ryan and our little sausage dog ‘Hairy Potter’.

What was the moment you were inspired to get fit and healthy?

About 8 years ago, I was promoted into a high end corporate role and for anyone who works in the world of corporate or who is on the road a lot, you will understand.

Not knowing when I would be back in the office to eat, downing cups of coffee to try and keep sane and fulfil hunger pains, and giving generously to the chocolate charity box… to help charity of course but also to bring a little comfort in the way of a Snickers or Mars Bar.

The breaking point for me was one day looking down at my desk and seeing about 6 chocolate wrappers on my desk in front of me and not even remembering eating them. That was the time I knew I wasn’t happy, or healthy on the inside and it was showing on the outside.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I wake up to puppy kisses at about 4:45am. I will have my gym clothes ready to go the night before so after I’ve flopped myself out of bed I will head straight to my gym at P2P Fitstop Morningside. After getting ready for work next stop is coffee… Can’t brain without my morning coffee.

I’m then normally at work around 7am cooking my breakfast.

I religiously have my 5.4 meals throughout the day and depending on the day I’m home after 6pm to walk Hairy Potter along the river with Ryan. Evenings are dedicated to writing and marketing ‘The Harris Sisters’. Sleep, repeat.

Your favourite way to move is …

To move my mouth up and down as I eat food… mmmmm food!  I’m a stand up jet-skier surfer in the making and also love exercising in a group environment! I love being motivated and encouraged and being able to return the favour to others.

Fav 5.4 meal ...

Satay Chicken, allllll day every day! Love, Love, Love!

Fav cheat meal …

I Do-nut even care if I treat myself to a donut now and then! I exercise and stick to my 5.4 meals, so I allow myself a ‘hole’ lot of deliciousness.

What advice would you give to other members of the 5.4 fam who want to make their lives happier and healthier?

Commit yourself. Don’t worry about how you are going to get from A to Z, just start moving in the direction of your goals. Just start.

Change your diet, go for a walk, however small, it all counts. Soon enough you will be feeling and seeing results internally and externally and you will automatically start making changes for the better, in all aspects of your life.

I’m my happiest when …

I’m outdoors and with my loved ones, Hairy Potter and friends. As far back as I can remember, I have always loved spending time outdoors being active and in nature!

Travelling around the world exploring cultures, out in the surf, on a hike or reading and writing on the grass in a park.

The one thing I’m trying really hard right now to do is …

Unapologetically, be myself. I don’t need to prove myself or live up to any expectations other than my own. I constantly check in with myself about what I stand for and who I am.

The key to success is believing in and being YOU, the key to failure is trying to please everyone or being someone you are not.

I stay true to myself when …

I don’t lose sight of who I am, what I believe and what I stand for. In a world full of circumstances, outside influences, bullying, negativity, self-shaming and trolling it’s easy to get pulled under. I’m true to myself by having integrity, being genuine, kind and down to earth.

The most important message you would like to share with the 5.4 fam re their health and fitness is …

Everyone slips up and that’s OK! Heck I’m not going to lie; I may have a cherry ripe hanging out of my mouth whilst typing this. The thing is you have one life. Make sure you are doing what you can to ensure it’s a healthy and happy one. Not just for you, but for your family. Write down a couple of goals starting small and work your way up. When you slip up (which you will) whether by not training, or eating a cherry ripe, try again. Don’t give up.
